JOHN A. SCHUYLER, AIA, LEED
Principal
John Schuyler joined FXFOWLE in 2006 and was promoted to Principal in 2011. His leadership and management skills combined with a range of project and planning design expertise makes him an invaluable part of FXFOWLE's Urban Studio. He focuses on integrating sustainable design within each vision for a project, building, or master plan, and implements a comprehensive, strategic design and planning approach for developing a site or city. John understands a city's evolution must consistently support and nurture a growing community from an economic, environmental, and urban perspective.
John is currently serving as Project Director for the new 70,000-square foot Golisano Institute for Sustainability at Rochester Institute of Technology. The building will serve as a living laboratory for the research and development of sustainable industrial processes and building systems. It is being designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification. He is also working on a new Class A 110,000-square-foot office building for Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo. The program includes offices for senior administration, physicians, scientists, and researchers, as well as clinical and research space.
John’s recent experience includes the Water Street Redevelopment Vision Plan in Lower Manhattan, an initiative addressing program, branding, economics, transportation, and, ultimately, streetscape design; and the recently completed 210,000-square-foot SAP North America Headquarters Expansion outside of Philadelphia. The building is the first of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic region to achieve a LEED Platinum certification. John recently served as Project Director for the Hunters Point South Master Plan, a development plan for a community of neighborhoods in Queens that supports cultural and economic diversity, neighborhood retail, a mix of housing types, educational facilities, and open space amenities. He was also the Project Director on the 1211 Avenue of the Americas Master Plan in New York City; a new 1.8-million-square-foot mixed-use development in Philadelphia, designed to achieve a LEED Gold certification; and a 680,000-square-foot mixed-use development in Bethesda, MD, which will be LEED Gold certified. John was also the Senior Designer for the Hoboken Terminal and Rail Yards Redevelopment Plan in New Jersey. The plan will define a strategic approach for developing the site that supports transit operations and the community from an economic, environmental, and urban design perspective.
John is an alumnus of New Jersey School of Architecture at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, the Boston Architectural Center, and the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he received his Master of Architecture in Urban Design, with Distinction.
