MARK E. STRAUSS, FAIA, AICP/PP, LEED

Senior Partner

As an architect, planner, urban designer, and Past President of AIA New York, Mark Strauss is an advocate for bringing a greater appreciation for architectural and urban design excellence to public policy. A key aspect of his interests and talents lies in developing strategic approaches to assist communities, institutions, and developers to reposition properties in response to urban design, economic, infrastructure, and political concerns.

Over the last few years, Mark led FXFOWLE's involvement with the Water Street Vision Plan for the Downtown Alliance. The plan made recommendations for the area's future programming, economics, transportation, and streetscape design. He also  advised the City of Philadelphia as part of their "Imagine Philadelphia," which began as a series of workshops designed to elicit community input into a city-wide planning framework. The team addressed issues including defining redevelopment strategies, identifying new transit and infrastructure opportunities; and helped to formulate economic strategies for future growth.

Other recent projects include the development of guidelines for both the Eastern and Western Rail Yards for Hudson Yards Development Corporation, the redevelopment plan for Hunters Point South; the redevelopment plan for the Hoboken Railyards, and the planning for the Nassau Hub Major Investment Study for Nassau County, which received an Award of Merit from AIA New York Chapter. Mark was also Partner-in-Charge on several CUNY projects, including Baruch Master Plan Amendment and the Queensborough Community College Master Plan.

Currently Mark is leading a number of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) planning efforts in Washington DC Metro Area for SAIC, Vornado, JM Zell, Lincoln Properties and LCOR, totaling over ten million square feet of new development.  He is also leading FXFOWLE's planning and design team for Atlanta's Multi-Modal Transportation Project for Georgia DOT, Forest City Enterprises, Cousins Properties and the Integral Group.

Mark received a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University and a Master of Urban Planning from City College.
