JACOB K. JAVITS CONVENTION CENTER Renovation and Expansion
New York, NY
Client: Empire State Development Corporation
Completion: 2013 (Project I)
Area: 1,369,000 sf
Located on the far west side of Manhattan, the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center is New York City’s primary venue for trade shows and conventions. A new subway extension is underway to provide mass transit access connecting the facility to hotels and other venues. The revitalization plan includes: reworking the entry plaza to create pedestrian friendly landscaped urban space; improved truck marshalling and storage; updating the building enclosure with a new high-performance curtain-wall and skylights; a highly insulating 6.75-acre green roof; and, new mechanical and electrical systems that will reduce energy consumption by 26%. Renovated interior spaces will improve human interaction, operational efficiency, and adaptability. Improved natural light, interior/exterior landscaping, and wayfinding systems will greatly enhance the visitor experience. FXFOWLE is collaborating with Epstein on this project.
