Hosfelt Gallery

New York, NY

Client: The Hosfelt Gallery
Completion: 2006
Area: 7,100 sf

After ten years of showcasing work by contemporary artists from all over the world in San Francisco, the Hosfelt Gallery opened a New York City location on West 36th Street in Hell’s Kitchen. Designed around concepts of spatial flow and the proliferation of daylight, the gallery features a sixty-foot-long exhibition space that links two forty by forty- foot galleries. Diffused light from seven skylights accents the space, yet the rooms can still be darkened for digital installations. New walls exist as floating, polished planes, free of columns and existing exterior walls. The crisp white of the walls contrasting the rough hewn wood rafters, dark wood floor, and cast iron columns creates a warm, yet clean palate for the exhibition of a variety of contemporary art. The Hosfelt Gallery was designed in association with San Francisco designer Louis Schump.
