The Ramaz School Master Plan and Renovation
New York, NY
Client: The Ramaz School
Completion: 2004
Area: 80,000 sf
Following a master plan that reconfigured the stacking of the Ramaz Upper School’s 1980s building, FXFOWLE redesigned and reconfigured the poorly functioning science floor. The design exchanges two oversized and inflexible labs for three modern, dedicated lab spaces at the rear of the building and a flexible configuration of classrooms, offices, and prep rooms at the front. The plan creates a continual circulation spine to promote a sense of openness and symmetry in the compact building. The rhythmic floor pattern, recurring paint colors, and consistent millwork throughout the floor enhances the feeling of movement and continuity.
