FXFOWLE has been working with The Spence School since 1986, when they began a long-term renovation and expansion of their landmarked home on East 91 Street. FXFOWLE’s 25,000 square foot addition, adjacent to the main building, maintains the historic character of the older building, and was recognized by local community groups for sensitivity to the existing building and neighborhood. The firm has performed subsequent renovations of the library, science labs, classrooms, and lobby. In 2001, we completed a Master Plan for the expansion of the Middle and Upper Schools and subsequently designed the phased renovation which included new classrooms, art rooms, a black box theatre, and key gathering and circulation areas. We maintain an ongoing relationship with the school, providing planning and architectural services on an as needed basis to help them continue to expand their curriculum and fulfill their mission.
