Archstone Clinton
New York, NY
Client: The Dermot Company
Completion: 2009
Area: 677,000 sf
Built over sunken rail cuts that blighted the neighborhood, the Archstone Clinton Mixed-Use Development has created a new sense of vibrancy through an innovative network of public spaces and buildings. The project includes 630 residential units; space for three non-profit theater groups, retail space; and below-grade parking, all connected with grade and roof-level open spaces. The scheme comprises three buildings which together frame an urban garden and plaza connected to the surrounding streets by through-block arcades. The building palette takes advantage of the wide variety of locally available building materials resulting in a spirited architectural expression. Exterior wall construction is of robust masonry and glass construction with a high thermal coefficient to assist in meeting strict efficiency goals. The project has received LEED Certification from the USGBC.
