Times Square Interim Retail
New York, NY
Client: New York City Transit Authority
Completion: 2000
Area: 200,000 sf
The scope of the Times Square Interim Retail project included four components: the revitalization of ground floor tenant spaces, the construction of new storefronts in existing buildings, the construction of two new buildings and the improvement of site elements within a four block area in Times Square. The first phase involved the inspection and refurbishment of existing exterior storefronts, interior finishes, exterior facades, and other building elements. The second component of the project entailed replacing the existing storefronts in two of the buildings. The third part involved the construction of two entirely new retail buildings, one including the Times Square Brewery and the new main entrance to the subway station, to create a prominent focal point for the “Crossroads of the World” intersection. The final portion of the project required the replacement of all sidewalk pavings within the four block area.
