Hoboken Light Rail Station
Hoboken, New Jersey
Client: New Jersey Transit
Completion: 2004
Area: 86,000 sf
The new Hoboken Station of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Transit System, above the existing slip between Newport and Hoboken, links the commuter system of trains, PATH, and ferries as well as providing pedestrian access to both Newport and Hoboken residents. A repaved train station floor visually connects the traveler from the existing entrance to the light rail station situated behind the immigrant building, while a tensile supported copper canopy provides covered access across the bridge to the platforms. Continuous curved glass block windscreens along each platform allow uninterrupted wind protection for both seating and ticket machines. A pedestrian plaza provides open-air seating and recreational space, linking the station to the pedestrian path to Newport.
