Newark-Elizabeth Rail Link
Newark, NJ
Client: New Jersey Transit
Completion: 2006
Working with BRW and Parsons Brinckerhoff Engineers, the team completed several conceptual designs for the development of the first of three operating segments of the Newark-Elizabeth Rail Link in downtown Newark, New Jersey. The first operating segment is comprised of four stations linking Penn Station, Newark, the NJ Performing Arts Center, a new sports stadium and the Broad Street commuter rail station. Each station design reflects the unique characteristics of its immediate urban context, and includes canopies, seating areas, lighting and landscape elements. The streetscape corridors between the stations are treated as design links and include new lighting, paving and landscaping. The initial segment, completed in 2006, serves as a catalyst for further redevelopment in downtown Newark.
