Stillwell Avenue Terminal

Brooklyn, NY

Client: MTA New York City Transit
Completion: 2004
Area: 410,000 sf

As a growing intermodal station, the Stillwell Avenue Terminal in Coney Island, Brooklyn, serves the N, B, F, and D lines of the New York City subway system and several major commuter bus routes. The existing station required a complete structural overhaul, and improvements to circulation, accessibility, security, and architectural expression were investigated. A large glass and streel structure, articulated with integrated photovoltaic panels, spans the platform configuration and unifies the track alignment. The existing historic terra cotta BMT façade was restored and new retail space provided. This design positions the BMT Stillwell Avenue Terminal as a catalyst for future redevelopment. This project recieved awards from the AIA, COTE, and NYC/EPA.
